RSD Lite Flex

 Support for Flexing with the new HSR format

Suspend mode after flex operation in RSD Lite:

Only users who want the phone in suspend mode after the flex operation will need set the
“AfterFlexOption” with the value 1 in RSDLite.ini file. The tool will restart the phone after the flexing operation if option for action after flex option is set up with the value 0. Therefore, if the desired behavior is restarting the phone after the flexing operation (that’s the behavior in RSD Lite 2.7 and 2.8), set the value to 0.
Debugging, Logging and Error Messages in RSD Lite

List of log files needed while reporting issues:
1) swdl.txt
2) xx_xx_xx_xx_PST_Core.log
3) FlashErrorLogxx_xx_xx_xx_xx.log

All error messages are logged in text files.

The firmware upgrade and multi-upgrade error messages are logged in: swdl.txt file, which is
created in RSD Lite folder. This swdl.txt file is always created and messages are logged
sequentially by date/time. User must have write access to this folder.

The flex operation error messages are logged in flexerror.txt, which is created in RSD
Lite\PhoneFileLog folder. This flexerror.txt file is created only when there is an error during
flex operation. User must have write access to this folder.

FlashErrorLog.txt file is created whenever a flash related error occurs. It is created in the RSD
Lite folder. User must have write access to this folder.

Flash break-up time can be logged to a CSV File in RSD Lite v1.7.1 Release onwards. The
details provided will contain the flashing time for each code group and size of CGs etc. This
feature is turned OFF by default. For more details, please refer User manual.

Turning ON logs for Framework and Flash in RSD Lite

For debugging purposes, the logs may have to be turned ON in RSD Lite. Please delete all
the existing log files in C:\Program Files\Motorola\RSD Lite directory.

For Framework logs, please change the value in pst.ini file in C:\Program Files\Motorola\RSD
Lite directory

Support Limitations and known issues

 If a phone is subsidy locked, RSD Lite will ignore errors returned by the phone when flexing secure elements and continue. The phone must be manually unlocked prior to flexing to properly write secure elements.

 The FSAC timeout has been increased to 600 seconds.

 RSD Lite will use the generic flex class if the SEEM Technology information is blank.

 A Master Clear is not issued after a flex procedure.

iPhone Dev-Team Releases Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1
The iPhone Dev-Team has released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1. The jailbreak implements the untether developed by i0n1c.

The 4.3.1 untether exploit comes courtesy of Stefan Esser (@i0n1c on twitter), a security researcher based in Germany. Stefan has a long history of vulnerability research, and ironically his first contribution to the iPhone jailbreak community was improved security — last year he beat Apple to the punch and implemented ASLR for jailbroken iPhones with his "antid0te" framework. We're happy to see that Stefan then turned his iPhone attention over to an untethered jailbreak exploit!

Supported devices are the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, iPad 1 and Apple TV 2. The iPad 2 is not supported as of yet.

The iPhone Dev-Team has released a beta of their 'backup plan' untethered jailbreak. Currently the beta is only for Mac users and is limited to iPhone4, iPad, and iPod touch 4G.

Important Points:
● This is a beta tester program. Things can go very wrong, so please don’t even consider testing if you have pictures or other media on your device that you haven’t backed up!
● For the same reason, please don’t participate if you rely on the ultrasn0w carrier unlock. Wait for the final version!
● Until we fix some sandbox issues with bluetooth, the bluetooth functionality is disabled.

For all of you having a difficult time, here's exactly what I did to follow Dave's instructions:

Mac

1. Go to your "Applications" folder
2. Go to your "Utilities" folder
3. Launch "Terminal"
4. Type "sudo nano /etc/hosts" (without quotes) and hit return
5. Enter your password
6. Use the down arrow key to find the "gs.apple.com" entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering "#" (no quotes) in front of the text
7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O on the keyboard
8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X on the keyboard
9. Restore your iDevice
10. Come back and thank Dave

Step-by-step for windows:

1. start > programs > accessories > notepad
2. file > open
3. navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
4. select the "hosts" file and click "open"
5. delete any line that has "sc.apple.com"

IOS 4.2.1 Unlock for Iphone 3Gs and 3G (update)

Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 has just been released which can jailbreak and update iPhone 3GS & 3G baseband to 06.15.00 so that it can be unlocked using the newly released Ultrasn0w 1.2.
The new redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 is out. It gives both and OSX users the ability to flash the iPad 06.15 baseband on iPhone3G or iPhone3GS. It fetches the baseband files directly from Apple for now (the only IPSW you ever point it at is the stock IPSW for the FW on your iPhone right now). There may be a long delay while it’s doing this (their servers are getting pounded right now)
If you do flash your baseband via redsn0w, please keep it plugged into USB the whole time. You don’t want your battery to die during the flash process!
WARNING:
YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.
There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).
Also, like the previous version of Redsn0w:
This version of Redsn0w is based on Geohot’s Limera1n bootrom exploit which has already pwned all current iOS devices for life. The only problem is that it is a tethered jailbreak, which means you will have to boot it into a “jailbroken state” on every reboot. This so called tethered or semi-tethered jailbreak condition in Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 & b5 however only applies to the new devices like: iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 2G (MC Model), iPod touch 3G and the iPod touch 4G. Old devices like iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model) can be jailbroken-untethered right now using this latest version of Redsn0w. So until and unless Comex of Spirit and JailbreakMe fame comes up with another untethered hack for iOS 4.2.1, the jailbreak we get for the newer devices will be tethered (or semi-tethered).
Note: This release of Redsn0w is mainly targeted for iPhone 3GS & 3G users on iOS 4.1 / 4.2.1 who rely on a carrier unlock. All iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad and iPod touch users who don’t rely on a carrier unlock should follow the instructions posted here to jailbreak their iOS device on iOS 4.2.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4.
Follow the instructions posted below to update your iPhone 3GS or 3G to 06.15.00 baseband and jailbreak it on iOS 4.1 /4.2.1.
Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3GS or 3G.
Step 2: Update/Restore to iOS 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.1.
Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 and point it to iOS 4.2.1 firmware to proceed with the jailbreak.

Step 4: Now select “Install Cydia” & “Install iPad baseband” options and then click “Next” to continue. Redsn0w will now fetch the exploitable 06.15.00 baseband from 3.2.2 important
and will replace it the baseband in iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1.

Note: Install iPad baseband option is applicable to iPhone 3GS & 3G users only who rely on a carrier unlock.
Step 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 6: Sit back and enjoy while Redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone or iPod touch will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken on the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware, with the unlockable 06.15.00 baseband.

The iPhone Dev-Team has released the updated version of carrier unlocking tool called Ultrasn0w which can unlock the latest iOS 4.2.1 and 4.1 firmware on iPhone 3GS and 3G on basebands later than 05.13.04. Since iPhone 4 has different baseband OS, It’ll take a little while longer for the Dev Team to unlock it on the latest firmware.

How to: Update iPhone 3GS & 3G to 06.15.00 Baseband for Unlock:
Step 1: Ultrasn0w 1.2 unlocking requires that your phone is jailbroken on 4.1 or 4.2.1 firmware with 06.15.00 baseband. Follow the complete guide posted here (with PwnageTool) or here (for Redsn0w) to update your iPhone 3GS or 3G baseband to 06.15.00 and jailbreak it on iOS 4.1 / 4.2.1.
How to: Unlock iPhone 3GS & 3G on iOS 4.2.1 / 4.1:
Step 2: Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can now unlock your iPhone on any baseband using Ultrasn0w 1.2 from Cydia. To do this:
Start “Cydia” on your iPhone.
Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.
Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

Once your phone reboots open MyWi and it should say trial expires in X days. (mine says 6 others says 3, all depends on what date works for you.)

8. Enjoy

If sometimes later you get the MyWi Not Initialized! message. (as shown above)

The easiest solution is here (do these steps in quick succession)

1. open miwi 1st time
2. when it asked to exit or reboot, click on exit 1st time
3. open mywi 2nd time
4. when it asked to exit or reboot, click on exit 2nd time
5. open mywi 3rd time
6. when it asked to exit or reboot, click on reboot

Once you have rebooted, now open mywi, and it should work.

Everytime you run into this problem, just repeat the steps above and it should work everytime .

Update for those who have "MyWi Not Initialized. Reboot ?" problem
MyWi will do 2 checks on the trial expiry date ① when the device reboot and ② when launching the MyWi app. The cracked package will handle point ②. However, if the trial period expired when reboot, the MyWi library will not be initialized, and you will get the "MyWi Not Initialized" error when launching the app. To get around this problem you either don't ever reboot the device (which is very unlikely) or have to do this below, until a proper patch is developed.
(1) Change the iPad / iPhone's date back to date of installation of MyWi 4.0 v4.7.7
(2) Reboot iPad / iPhone
(3) Start MyWi 4.0, and the Initialization error would gone

HOW TO INSTALL A .DEB FILE

To Patch MyWi v4.7.7-2 !

Before you begin this tutorial / installation you will have to REMOVE / UNINSTALL any other older versions (previously installed) from your iPhone or iPad.

OK here we go… First thing you need to to is go into Cydia and search for MyWi 4.0 (Official Version). Once you find it in Cydia then go ahead and install it onto your iPhone.
Also, just for your information; the version you will be installing is 4.7.7-2 which will give you 3 Days worth of FREE Trial but this crack / fix will give you unlimited access to this application.
NOTE: As you can see from the screenshot below you will be searching and installing the “MyWi 4.0″ NOTE: When you click on this app you will see the 4.7.7-2 Version. Hit the Install button and then the Confirm button on your iPhone or iPad while in Cydia

You should now see MyWi 4.0 icon on your springboard. Go ahead and launch the MyWi 4.0, accept the agreement by pressing the Accept button.

When you get into the MyWi for the first time you will be presented with a splash screen which will say “Thank you for Trialing MyWi” and then it will reboot your iPhone.
If it doesn’t reboot your iPhone you will need to do it manually before you can use it and / or before you can see the “3 Day Trial” splash screen at the bottom of the application.
Once you reboot you iPhone you should be able to launch the MyWi app and start using it. At this point you will see 3 Day Trial message at the bottom of your screen (Splash Screen) which will appear and then disappear within few seconds.YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR DEVICE!!!

NOW You should be ready for some FUN “SSH” stuff!!! Right??? Don’t be scared, SHH into your iPhone or iPad is very simple so don’t worry, I will hold your hand all the way through this tutorial.

Now download the MyWi 4.7.7-2_Fixed_Files.zip File and Save it to your computer. Extract two files from the ZIP archive to any desired location on your computer (i.e. Desktop) You can download this file from HERE or at the bottom of this tutorial.

For this tutorial I have created a folder on my Desktop named “MyWi_Fix” and extracted the content of the ZIP archive into it. In the screenshot below you will see two files “MyWiApp” and “MyWiApp.install“, you will need these files so keep them handy.

Start WinSCP and connect to iPhone. In host name field, type in the IP address of your iPhone. Make sure the port number is set to “22” by default this option is already set to 22 but in case it’s not then change it.
For user name use “root” and for password use “alpine” (NOTE: This user name and password is the same for all iPhones and iTouch iPods ever made by Apple). Don’t worry about any other fields or options.

Once you have logged in to your iPhone, browse to /private/var/stash/Applications/MyWi.app directory.

Copy/Move the two files you have extracted earlier from the downloaded ZIP archive (“MyWiApp” and “MyWiApp.install“) into your iPhone’s directory: /private/var/stash/Applications/MyWi.app

You will be asked to overwrite existing files, just go ahead and agree to it and overwrite both files (Actually you will be overwriting just one file “MyWiApp”)

You must do the following step for MyWi to work properly

You now have to set permissions to Read, Write, Execute for both files (“MyWiApp” and “MyWiApp.install“) in your iPhone’s directory: /private/var/stash/Applications/MyWi.app, these are the same files you have moved here in the previous step.
While in WinSCP or Cyberduck, RIGHT CLICK on “MyWiApp” file and select PROPERTIES, then set your permissions (Octal:) to 7777 or just select all the checkboxes and then click OK button. You will have to do the same thing for the “MyWiApp.install” file.

Now all you have to do is REBOOT your device (NOT ReSpring but full 100% Shut Down and Restart). Once you reboot your iPhone you should be able to start using MyWi right away.
Please not that you will always see the splash screen with the 6 or 3 Day Trial come up and go away but it will not interfere with your tethering experience in any way, shape or form.
You don’t have to pay much attention to it because you now have 100% fully operational copy of MyWi 4.7.7-2

There have already been two updates with Apple’s iOS – iOS 4.0.1 released last July, and iOS 4.0.2 released this August. With these two updates and with the fantastic features of the iPhone 4, is it still necessary for you to jailbreak or unlock your iPhones?
Before the advent of jailbreaking, people who buy iDevices accept that their device’s fate will be dictated by Apple as to apps that will be installed, which of the hardware functions can be exploited to their full potential, and which carrier can be used with your iPhone.
Jailbreaking Defined
People who are not open to the “exclusivity” idea found ways to free their phones. That’s when Jailbreaking came to be. Jailbreaking is a process that enables a device to run code, meaning programs or system modification that hasn't been sanctioned by Apple. A jailbroken iPhone for example, will allow its user to download many extensions and themes previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia.
Jailbreaking became so popular that the Copyright Office legalized it last July allowing all iPhone users to gain full and better control of their phones, reiterating that: “When one jailbreaks a smartphone in order to make the operating system on that phone interoperable with an independently created application that has not been approved by the maker of the smartphone or the maker of its operating system, the modifications that are made purely for the purpose of such interoperability are fair uses.”Features of iOS 4.0.1 and 4.0.2
The iOS 4.0.1 software update didn’t offer new features. Its main purpose was to address the flaw on the number of bars displayed by the iPhone 4 as a consequence of the “deathgrip” problem.
Apple said that an incorrect formula was used and this resulted to an incorrect display of the iPhone’s true signal strength. Due to this flaw, users in low reception areas see more 4 or 5 signal bars when it should be less.

The iOS 4.0.2, on the other hand, was also released to address a security problem found on iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1 created by JailbreakMe, a web-based jailbreaking tool for iDevices that is downloaded into the iOS device through a PDF file. JailbreakMe attacks a hole in the iOS making your iDevices vulnerable to hacking and malware installation.
TheiOS 4.0.2 software update has now addressed and patched this vulnerability issue and has provided improvements to Multitasking and fast app switching. It also brought over 100 new features to the iPhone like folders, better mail, iBooks, Home screen wallpaper, and wireless keyboard support among others.

The iOS 4.0.2 works with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G although not all features are said to be compatible with all devices. Apple said multitasking is available only with iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
Reasons for Jailbreaking and Unlocking
Now, going back to the question of whether or not it is still necessary to jailbreak or unlock your iPhones, many believed this is still a necessity.
Apple mentioned that the iPhone 3GS and 3G are not capable of handling the full features of iOS 4.0.2. Many jailbreakers believe this is not the case. iPhone users of these two models who have jailbroken their phones saw that their units responded quite well to multitasking and to running several apps.
Access to applications is also another reason for jailbreaking because there are far more apps available in Cydia for jailbreakers than through iTunes.
It is also necessary to unlock the iPhone so people who want to be free from AT&T can switch to other carriers like T-Mobile.

2. iPhone 3G, 3GS with 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 or 05.13.04 baseband

JailbreakMe is the latest jailbreak method for all devices running iOS 3.1.2 or newer. Like I said before, JailbreakMe is the easiest jailbreak you will ever find but some of you asked me to write a tutorial about it.
This guide and tutorial will show you how to use JailbreakMe to jailbreak your iPhone. Obviously, most people won’t need this tutorial because JailbreakMe is pretty straightforward.

Step 1: Make you your iPhone is backed up in iTunes, in case something goes wrong.
Step 2: From you iPhone, go to JailbreakMe.com.
Step 3: Slide to jailbreak.

Step 4: Sit back, relax. JailbreakMe will be downloaded to your iPhone and will work its magic. When done, a pop up will tell you that Cydia has been installed.

Step 5: Reboot your iPhone. You don’t have to, but it’s always a good thing to do.
That’s it. Nothing to download to your computer.

unlock iphone 4 using ultrasn0w

Before we start into the tutorial to unlock iPhone 4 I want to start by explain what unlocking actually is. Unlocking is the removal of SIM restrictions on your iPhone so that you can use any carrier you want. This is what most people want to be able to do as it can save them a great deal of money on their monthly bills. It also means that you can continue to use the service provider that you are currently using. With that out of the way, let’s move on to this step by step Unlock iPhone 4 tutorial.
Ultrasn0w is a very popular application for unlocking iPhones and it has been updated so that you can now unlock iPhone 4. This is great news and it means that you can now use your iPhone with any carrier you choose. The latest version of ultrasn0w has the support for the carrier unlock for iPhone 4 with a baseband 01,59.00 as well as 3G and 3GS models on baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04.
The first thing that any iPhone 4 user is going to have to do is jailbreak their iPhone. There are a number of ways taht you can do this. Once you have jailbroken your iPhone you can follow the step by step tutorial below.

Step 1: The first step to unlock iPhone 4 is to launch the Cydia application on your iPhone. Once the application opens you will then need to hit the search button and type in ultrasn0w. When this has been found you should hit install so that ultrasn0w can be installed on your device.

If ultrasn0w doesn’t show up when you type it into the search button you will need to follow the remainder of the steps in this tutorial. If you were lucky enough for it to show up you are almost finished and all you have to do is turn off your iPhone, turn it back on and hey presto you have been able to unlock iPhone 4.

Step 2:
When Cydia has launched you need to hit the manage button and then select sources. You will then need to hit the edit button and then the add button.

Step 3:
In the box that appears where you are asked to enter Cydia/APT URL you will need to type in http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and then click the add source button. Cydia will then verify the URL that you have typed and then register the repository URL. When this has finished all you have to do is hit the return to Cydia to continue with the unlocking process.

Step 4: You should now have the new URL registered so all you have to do is hit the done button. You will now be able to find the ultrasn0w application and this will automatically unlock iPhone 4. The next step in this process is to turn off your device.

Step 5: Turn back on your device and the ultrasn0w application will now begin the unlock iPhone 4 process. You will now be able to use your iPhone 4 with any carrier you choose.

Redsnow new version 0.9.6b1

released a beta version of redsn0w for the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at FW 4.1 or 4.0. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. It does not include the SHAtter exploit developed by pod2g. Nothing new is revealed to Apple with this jailbreak.

IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W UNLOCK, PLEASE WAIT FOR PWNAGETOOL TO SUPPORT 4.1. DO NOT USE REDSN0W. That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple. If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possibly forever).

The Windows version needs further testing, so for now this is available only for Mac OS X x86. The Windows version will come as soon as the bugs are ironed out.

Note: if you have an “MC” model of the ipt2g, your 4.1 jailbreak will be tethered…sorry! (Consider rolling back to a FW supported by jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com)

What devices, platforms, and FW versions are supported?

This BETA release supports:

iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only (for now)
Mac OS X x86 only (for now)
4.1 or 4.0 firmware from Apple

How do I use it?

If you’ve already updated your device to 4.1 or 4.0, the next steps are:

Launch the beta redsn0w 0.9.6b1
Select your stock 4.1 or 4.0 ipsw (you’ve already used this to update your device to 4.1 or 4.0)
Select “Install Cydia” and any of the other options shown above, then click “Next”. Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.

Note: If you choose to “Enable battery percentage”, you actually toggle that off and on via Settings->General->Usage.

Fix Push Notifications on 3.0 iPhone

These are instructions on how to fix push notifications on your jailbroken 3.0 iPhone 2G. Please note that this is a preliminary fix by the iPhone Dev-Team and thus may need some improvements before it is finalized.

Step One
Press to launch Cydia from your SpringBoard.

Step Two
Press to select the Manage tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step Three
Press the large Sources button.

Step Four
Press the Edit button at the top right of the screen.

Step Five
Press the Add button at the top left of the screen.

Step Six
Enter

as the new source address and tap the Add Source button.

Step Seven
Once the source has been successfully added press the large Return to Cydia button.

Step Eight
Press the Done button to exit Edit mode.

Step Nine
Press to select the newly added cydia.iphoneil. net repository.

Step Ten
Press to choose Push Fix from the list of Packages

Step Eleven
Press the Install button at the top right of the screen.

Step Twelve
Then press the Confirm button to beginning installation

Step Thirteen
Once installation has completed successfully press the large Reboot Device button to reboot your iPhone.

Once rebooted verify that YouTube works. If not try reinstalling the patch.

You will also need to remove then reinstall all your applications which use Push Notifications before they will work.

Capture iPhone 3GS iBEC and iBSS on mac

These are instructions on how to capture your iPhone 3GS iBEC and iBSS which will be

required to jailbreak in the near future. The windows version of this tutorial can be found bellow

Step One
Create a new folder on your desktop called Pwnage and place the 3.0 firmware in the folder. You can download the firmware from here. Leave this window open.

Step Two
Launch iTunes by clicking its icon in your dock

Step Three
We will need to do an iPhone restore from DFU mode to get our iBEC and iBSS.

Follow these instructions to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

iTunes will popup a message saying it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
Click okay to this message then Hold down the Option key and click the Restore button

Select the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop and click the Open button.

Your iPhone will now begin restoring to the 3.0 firmware. You will be warned that this will erase your phone. DO NOT CLICK THE RESTORE BUTTON YET.

Step Four
Open a new Terminal window by click its icon in the dock or by launching it from Applications:Utilties.

Input the following command into the Terminal window then press the Enter key.

Step Five
Back in iTunes you may now click the Restore button from the popup message to continue.

Step Six
As the DFU mode restore is progressing watch the Pwnage folder we have open in Finder. You will notice two files appear that look like this: iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu and iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu

Step Seven
Once the two files appear in your Pwnage folder you can switch back to the Terminal window and press Control+c to stop the running script.

Step Eight
Once the DFU restore has completed iTunes will ask you to restore from backup or set up as a new phone. To keep your settings as before select Restore from the backup of: then click the Continue button to finalize the restore.

Step Ten
That's it. We now have captured our iBEC and iBSS. You can move these to a safe place to be used for a future jailbreak of your iPhone 3GS.

These are instructions on how to capture your iPhone 3GS iBEC and iBSS which will be required to jailbreak in the near future.

**NOTE: It seems like most are able to capture both their iBEC and iBSS files in DFU mode. To try it just in DFU mode skip steps 4 through 6.

Step One
Press the Windows key + R to bring up the run dialog. In the entryfield type %temp% then click OK.

This will bring up the windows temp folder for your user account. Make sure you order the folder by date modified with the most recent at the top. Scroll down to the top of the folder list.

You must be able to view hidden files and folders. In Vista you can do this by selecting Organize from the toolbar then choosing Folder and Search Options.

From the View tab of the window that appears choose Show hidden files and folders then click OK

Step Two
Create a new folder on your desktop called Pwnage and place the 3.0 firmware in the folder. You can download the firmware from here

Step Three
Launch iTunes from your Programs menu.

Step Four
Make sure your iPhone 3GS is connected to the computer then select from the list of devices on the left. Hold down the Shift key and click the Restore button

Select the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop and click the Open button.

Your iPhone will now begin restoring to the 3.0 firmware. You will be warned that this will erase your phone. Click the Restore button to continue.

Step Five
As the restore is progressing watch the %TEMP% folder we have open. A new folder will appear with a name similar to Per518D.tmp. When the folder does appear, select it, then press Control+c to copy it to the clipboard.

Move to the second Finder window that is showing the Pwnage folder and press Control+v to copy the file folder into the window.

**Remember you only have a limited time to do this as the folder will be removed very shortly. It seems like a new folder will pop into the %TEMP% directly three times during the DFU restore. You need to capture the first one that appears.

Step Six
Once the restore has completed iTunes will ask you to restore from backup or set up as a new phone. To keep your settings as before select Restore from the backup of: then click the Continue button

Step Seven
Once the backup has been restored we will need to do another iPhone restore from DFU mode to get our iBSS. To do this follow these instructions to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

iTunes will popup a message saying it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
Click okay to this message then Hold down the Shift key and click the Restore button

Select the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file from the Pwnage folder on your desktop and click the Open button.

Your iPhone will now begin restoring to the 3.0 firmware. You will be warned that this will erase your phone. Click the Restore button to continue.

Step Eight
As the DFU mode restore is progressing watch the /tmp folder we have open in Finder. A new folder will appear with a name similar to PerD112.tmp. When the folder does appear, select it, then press Control+c to copy it to the clipboard.

Move to the second Finder window that is showing the Pwnage folder and press Control+v to copy the file folder into the window.

**Remember you only have a limited time to do this as the folder is removed shortly.

Step Nine
Once the DFU restore has completed iTunes will ask you to restore from backup or set up as a new phone. To keep your settings as before select Restore from the backup of: then click the Continue button to finalize the restore.

Step Ten
That's it. We now have captured our iBEC and iBSS. You can move these to a safe place to be used for a future jailbreak of your iPhone 3GS.

To confirm you have the files look in Pwnage/Per????.tmp/Firmware/dfu. You should see two files: iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu and iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu

How to put an iphone into dfu mode

DFU means Device Firmware Update. If a restore using Recovery Mode doesn't work you will want to use DFU Mode as a last resort. When placing your iPhone into DFU Mode it does not load the OS before attempting the restore

To put the iPhone into DFU mode so you can do an iTunes firmware restore follow these steps:

Step One
Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac.

Step Two
Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

The iPhone screen will remain black like this:

NOTE***: It may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, I hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before I think the Apple logo would appear. If you are still holding both buttons down and you see the Apple logo you are holding them down for too long!

How to jailbreak Your iPhone 3G on OS 3.0.x by RedSn0w

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G on the 3.0.x iPhone firmware using RedSn0w for Windows. .

This tutorial can be used to jailbreak before applying the UltraSn0w unlock.

** If you would like to jailbreak on the 3.0.1 firmware you can follow these exact instructions; however, in Step Two restore using this 3.0.1 iPhone firmware file instead of the 3.0 one. Continue with the instructions as indicated.**

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage
Download RedSn0w from here
and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest firmware from below and place it in the same folder.

Extract the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder.

Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.

Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware you may launch redsnw0w.exe from the Pwnage folder on your desktop.

Step Four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button

Step Five
Select the firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open

Step Six
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.

Step Seven
Make sure Cydia is selected and click the Next button.

Step Eight
Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button

Step Nine
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.

Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

Step Ten
Your iPhone will now reboot

Step Eleven
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.

Step Twelve
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button.
When your iPhone finishes reboot (5 minutes or so). It will be jailbroken with Cydia on the Spring Board.

Organize Your iPhone Apps Using Movement instructions

These are instructions on how to organize your iPhone applications using Movement. You will need to jailbreak your iPhone to make use of this utility.

Step One
Download Movement from here
Iphone Movement

Step Two
Double click the Movement.zip file on your Desktop to extract the archive. Drag the Movement app into your Applications folder to install it.

Step Three
Launch the Movement utility by double clicking its icon in the Applications folder.

Step Four
Click OK to close the welcome popup.

Step Five
Click the Read Apps button to load your SpringBoard layout.

Step Six
You can now drag the icons around to rearrange the layout to your preference.

Step Seven
When ready to apply your new layout click the Write Apps button.

Step Eight
You will be prompted to save a backup of your SpringBoard. Click the Yes button.

Step Nine
Select the location to save your backup the click the Save button.

Step Ten
You may now disconnect your iPhone and reboot to apply the new layout.

These are instructions on how to use the new Voice Control feature on the iPhone 3G S.
VOICE CONTROL BASICS

To activate Voice Control press and hold the Home button until the Voice Control screen appears on screen.

Call a Contact From Your Address Book
Say Call or Dial then say the name of the person. If the contact has more then one number you can follow up with the type of number. For example, say Call George Mobile.

Dial a Number
Say Call or Dial then say the number. For example, say Call 1 800 123 4567.

Make a Correction
If the Voice Control system got your command wrong you can make a correction by saying Wrong, Not That One, Not That, No, or Nope

Control Music Playback
You can use the Voice Control feature to control your iPod.
- To start playing say, Play or Play Music.
- To pause playing say, Pause or Pause Music
- To navigate through songs say Next Song and Previous Song

To specify what music to play you can use these commands:
- Play Album then the name of the album
- Play Artist then the name of the artist
- Play Playlist then the name of the playlist

To shuffle the current playlist simply say Shuffle

If you would like to find out more about whats playing you can say,
- What's Playing

If you would like to use the Genius feature to find similar songs say,

PREVENT VOICE DIALING FROM LOCK SCREEN

Record Video With iPhone Instruction

These are instructions on how to record and share video with your iPhone 3G S device.

Step One
Press to launch the Camera app from your iPhone SpringBoard.

Step Two
Move the slider at the bottom right of the screen to select Movie mode.

Step Three
Press the screen to select the object you would like to focus on then tap the record button.

Step Four
Notice that a record timer will appear and the record light will start flashing. Press the record button again to stop recording.

Step Five
Once finished recording to view your recorded video simply press the thumbnail at the bottom left of the screen.

Step Six
Press the large play button in the center of the screen to view the video recorded.

Step Seven
Notice the scrub bar at the top of screen. You can drag the scrubber from to skip through the video.

Step Eight
Drag the handles at the left and right of the scrub bar to set in and out points for the clip. You can then press the Trim button to trim the video.

Step Nine
To share the video with a friend press the Share icon at the bottom left of the screen.

Step Ten
From the popup menu you can choose to share the clip via Email, MMS, MobileMe, or YouTube

These are instructions on how to copy and paste on the iPhone 3.0 firmware.

COPY
To copy text to the clipboard double tap on a piece of text to bring up the bubble menu. Drag the blue handles that appear to extend your selection then press the Copy button.

To copy an image to the clipboard you can tap and hold a thumbnail to bring up the bubble menu then press the Copy button.

To copy multiple photos to the clipboard. Press the send icon at the bottom left of the screen then tap to select a few images. Press the Copy button at the bottom of the screen to copy them to the clipboard.

To copy text from Safari to the clipboard press and hold a block of text to bring up the bubble menu. Drag the blue handles to extend your selection then press the Copy button.

CUT
To cut text (copy to clipboard then remove) double tab to bring up the bubble menu. Drag the blue handles to extend your selection then press the Cut button.

SELECT ALL
To select all text in a form tap, hold, then release to bring up the bubble menu. Press the Select All button to highlight all the text available.

PASTE
To paste the text or images in your clipboard simply double tap to bring up the bubble menu then press the Paste button.

To undo your last paste shake your iphone to bring a popup menu where you can press the large Undo Paste button.

This is a basic demonstration/tutorial on how use the new iPhone Voice Memo application in iPhone OS 3.0. If you are not a developer you will likely not have access to this iPhone application until June 2009.

Step One
Press to launch the new Voice Memos application from the Springboard

Step Two
When the voice memo app opens you will see a microphone and a VU meter. At the bottom left there is a red record button. At the bottom right there is a list button.

To record a new voice memo press the Record button.

Step Three
You will see a status bar along the top display the elapsed time.

You can use the Pause button at the bottom left of the screen to pause then restart recording. Once you are done recording your voice memo press the Stop button at the bottom right of the screen.

Step Four
Press the list button at the bottom right to view your previously recorded memos.

Step Five
Your previously recorded memos will be ordered by the time recorded. You can also see the duration and date of each memo.

Press to select a memo for playback. You can use the Speaker button at the top left to listen to memo over the loud speakers.

Step Six
To share a memo with a friend press the Share button at the bottom of the screen.

Press the large Email Voice Memo button to open a new Mail message with the memo attached as a m4a audio file.

Step Seven
From the Voice Memo list you can also use the delete button at the bottom of the screen to delete a voice memo. Press the large Delete Voice Memo button to confirm the deletion.

Step Eight
To view more information about the memo you can press the blue circular arrow button to its right

From the Info window you can label, trim and share the memo.

Step Nine
Press the large button at the top which shows the time and duration of the recording.

This will open the Label screen where you can select a previously defined label or create your own. Press custom to give the memo your own label.

Once you have entered a name for your memo press the Label button at the top left. Then press the Info button at the top left to return to the memo details screen.

Step Ten
To trim the recording click the Trim Memo button. You will see a blue progress bar with a yellow handle on the left and on the right. Drag the handles to set the start and end of the clip. Press the play button to confirm it sounds ok then press the large Trim Voice Memo to finalize your cut.

Step Eleven
You can also use the Share button to send the memo just as we demonstrated in Step Six.

Jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 with PwnageTool Bundles

PwnageTool bundle to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 on iPhone 3GS has been released. You can use this bundle with existing version of PwnageTool to create custom firmware files which are jailbroken and hacktivated for iPhone 3GS. The best thing about this bundle is that it supports both the ultrasn0w unlock and hacktivation. But as always, this bundle is meant for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom only. Those of you who are with new bootrom will have to wait for Comex’s new Spirit like jailbreak tool which should be released real soon.

Simply download the the PwnageTool bundle from here, and then follow the step by step instructions for patching PwnageTool 4.0.1 for iOS 4.0.1 posted here, or directly on TGIL blog here. Once you are done with the jailbreak, you can then unlock it using Ultrasn0w 0.93 on any baseband (including 05.13.04 and 05.12.01), guide for which is posted here.

Windows mobile 7 vs Iphone

Brandon Minimal of Pocket Now has posted a very interesting video in which he compares the operating / home screening

system of Windows Phone 7 against iPhone 4 running iOS 4.x. Both have certain similarities along with places where WP7 and iOS completely take separate paths.

The differences start straight from the unlock screen. iOS has a very straight-forward lock screen which doesn’t give much information over the standard time and date whereas WP7’s, while being minimalistic, is anything but simple. You can see notifications (along with time/date) right from the lock screen so there is no need to unlock the device to check for updates.

Moving forward, iOS has a very app-centric homescreen system whereas WP7 offers a homescreen that has widgets or, as MS refers to them, live tiles. Users can pin custom tiles to the homescreen that offer little bits of information.

Microsoft’s system is action and information oriented while Apple’s system is focused on apps. Two very different philosophies…

Multi-tasking is definitely better on iOS because of the fast app switching system. Because of this, switching between one app and then another definitely requires more steps on WP7 which isn’t very intuitive at all. The folks at Redmond really need to tackle this issue in a big update. Fast app switching is an absolute must today.

HTC HD7 / Windows Phone 7

Folks at WMPoweruser have unearthed a schematic image of HTC’s enthusiastically anticipated HD7 (release date confirmed with price). HTC HD7 is the true successor of the Windows Mobile 6.5-based HD2. It is expected to have internals similar to the recently announced Desire HD which includes a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 786MB of RAM, an eyegasm-inducing 4.3” screen along with an 8MP camera(w/ flash).

HTC HD7 (previously HTC HD3), of course, be based on Windows Phone 7, and is expected to launch some time in October this year

Neo win has received information that Microsoft is set to launch a wide range of Windows Phone 7 devices on October 21 in UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain (US 21st Oct release date is not confirmed yet).

This is in line with expectations of an October release. Launch events will be held in major cities from around the world to commemorate the launch. Neo win also states that an open-house event will be held in New York on October 11 where Microsoft will show some of the newest devices. (Maybe we’ll finally see an official HTC HD7 announcement!)

With Windows Phone 7’s launch date inching nearer and nearer day by day, the time has come for Microsoft to start making use of its $400 million advertising budget for their all-new overhauled mobile operating system!

From what information we have, the ads embedded below were leaked from Microsoft. Original ads were pulled down but WMPoweruser managed to download a copy of the ads and uploaded them from their own account. See them in all their glory below!

At the end of both ads, you can see the HTC Mondrian. It is a WP7-based smartphone and from what we can tell, it will have a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5MP camera w/ flash, 8GB flash memory, WiFi, Bluetooth and the other standard WP7 specs. Screen size is not confirmed at the moment, but it should be 3.7” since HTC will keep the 4.3” spot for HTC HD7.

Announced just now over on Windows Phone Developer Blog, the development tools for Windows Phone 7 are now final after the OS itself going gold a couple of weeks ago. OEMs and mobile operators are going through the final stages of testing their handsets and now devs can finally finalize their apps and games.

HTC announced earlier that they have plans for launching a Windows Phone 7 handset but they never mentioned or revealed any price, specs or estimated release date for the said device. But now, a leaked inventory document of German cellular network O2 has revealed an upcoming Windows Phone 7 device by HTC, dubbed as the “HD7” which is likely going to be successor of the much popular Windows Mobile handset HTC HD2.

According to this documents, HTC HD7 will be available without contract for €559, and on two-year contract for just €79, with €20 monthly. October 18th has been picked as the approximate launch date for this mighty handset which is right after the official launch of WP7 by Microsoft, and almost one year after HTC HD2 was released in Europe.

Windows Phone 7 RTM with a Funeral Parade for the iPhone

his is probably the most epic event we’ve seen so far by Microsoft ! To celebrate the RTM (Release to Manufacturing) milestone of Windows Phone 7, Microsoft today arranged a special event to mark the funeral of both Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry. The event took place outside Microsoft’s Redmond campus last week, with employees dressed up in weird dresses, with the hearses of iPhone and BlackBerry.
Looks like Microsoft is dead sure that Windows Phone 7 is going to change be a game changer for them, but iPhone has a strong user base, and it won’t die out that easily. However one platform
which I want to see them beating is Google’s Android.

Microsoft better not let their fans down this time, because if WP7 turns out to be a failure, then it is going to be game over for them. Oh and not to forget the beating that they are going to get for this whole funeral stunt thingy from the public.

A Revolution by Windows Phone 7

Microsoft has just premiered their first ad for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 platform. This teaser ad features Lawrence of Arabia theme and promises a lot of great things to come. Windows Phone 7 is Ready

Microsoft today has announced that Windows Phone 7 code has been locked down, and it is ready to go onto consumer handsets this fall. In short it has reached its RTM (Release to Manufacturing) stage. All quirks have been washed out, new features
have been added, and all that’s left right now is for manufacturers to finalize and release the first of devices which will run Windows Phone 7.

This final version of Windows Phone 7 includes some changes, based on the feedback which was given to Microsoft from developers running the test units. Changes includes: UI tweaks and some more Facebook integration. Still missing in action will be multitasking, Twitter integration and copy/paste. These features I believe will be added in future versions.

Microsoft initially said that first of Windows Phone 7 devices will appear somewhere around the holiday season, but it seems that Microsoft has plans to launch it earlier, in October to be exact. So keep your eyes peeled for Windows Phone 7 handsets on your favorite carriers soon! Let’s see if Windows Phone 7 can give Android a run for it’s money.

Installous of Doc Morelli, is getting an update, 3.3.3, and it is more interesting, because it will allow you to send it to another iPhone over WiFi, an application downloaded via Installous, to do this you must go into the settings and activate Installous "Enable Local Sharing.
